Working in partnership with the HIPAA-secure tech platform,Mother of Fact, and the Los Angeles-based outpatient clinic, Claris Health, this project aims to increase a clinic’s use of the following CMS codes through registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) telehealth wraparound services for medical nutrition therapy (MNT) and app-based nutrition literacy:
Z55.0 Illiteracy and low-level literacy
Z71.3-billable diagnosis code for dietary counseling and surveillance with ICD-10 codes 97802 and 97803
Costs of MNT sessions and reimbursement vary; however, MNT is essential for improved patient outcomes. AHIMA Foundation will now move to the next round in the NIH Challenge for a chance at a $150,000 research grant.

Jan 26 - AHIMA Foundation met with the digital team at Mt. Sinai Health Systemwho are part of an enterprise-wide steering committee focused on improving accessibility at the institution level. They shared their current processes for translation and user testing of their websites, including online scheduling.
Jan 24 - AHIMA Foundation participated in the OpenNotes Shared Access to the Patient Portal for Older Adults Learning Collaborative. This month’s meeting focused on user centered design principles and the consumer perspective when accessing medical information. The Foundation will continue to participate in the collaboration throughout 2023.
Jan 17 - AHIMA Foundation met with the digital experience team atUW Medicinewho shared how they collaborate with EPIC's MyChart team, staff in other departments, and patients to create accessible user experiences. They shared equitable solutions to improve online scheduling and the value of having 508 expertise on staff.
Dec 8 - AHIMA Foundation met with digital leaders and ADA coordinators at RUSH University Medical Centerto understand how the organization achieved WCAG Compliance. RUSH is recognized as a high scoring organization in theDisability Equality Indexand shared how web accessibility is mutually beneficial for their patients and employees.
On January 31, 1922, the Alton Evening Telegraph newspaper published the article, “Humanitarian Use for Canceled Stamps.”At that time, England was turning canceled stamps into paper-mache which was used in children’s hospitals for bandaging small victims of air raids and accidents. A notice was put in the bulletin of the American Association of Medical Record Librarians (now known as AHIMA) asking members to send in their canceled postage stamps” to Miss Edith Bowdin and Mrs. Grace W. Meyers (known as the “first lady of HIM”) who were forwarding the stamps to Queens Hospital for Children in London.
